A Day at the Capitol . . . Olympia Field Trip

Samantha and I spent the day in our state's capitol. I chaperoned Sam & three of her classmates to Olympia for their field trip today. The 7th and 8th graders are currently studying Washington State History and US History later this year.

We arrived earlier than expected, so we had time to visit the World War II Memorial before our tour of the capitol building. Next we walked up the 42 steps of the capitol and listened to the history of the building (1922 completion) and the design of our state's seal.

We learned about the differences between the House and Senate, toured the governor's office, the ballroom and the Supreme Court building across the street.

Samantha had the chance to plea her first case as a lawyer of a "mock" trial. It was pretty cool! Notice the picture below . . .

I think the kids really enjoyed the experience and I sure learned a lot.

Two of the girls from our school were invited

to play the piano for us.
